Malini Awasthi is a renowned Indian folk and semi-classical singer, widely regarded as the “Folk Queen of India” for her contribution to preserving and popularizing traditional music forms. Trained in Hindustani classical music and a disciple of legendary vocalist Girija Devi, she is known for her mastery over genres such as Kajri, Chaiti, Thumri, Dadra, and folk traditions from Awadhi, Bhojpuri, and Bundelkhand regions. Over her career, she has performed extensively across India and internationally, bringing regional folk music to global audiences while also contributing to films and cultural initiatives. In recognition of her contribution to Indian music and culture, she was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri in 2016, and continues to be a leading voice in preserving India’s rich folk heritage.
